2 Questions To Ask An HVAC Contractor When Replacing Your AC

Blog

With the heat of summer and all the bright sunshine, your house can get very hot. Even if you have shade for part of the day, the heat will still work its way in. If you have an air conditioner, you can counteract that heat and keep your house at a comfortable temperature. However, if your air conditioner breaks down, then you have to figure out a way to keep your home cool. You need to call an HVAC contractor and arrange for them to look at your air conditioner to see if it needs to be replaced or if it can be repaired. When the service tech is at your house, you can ask them some questions if you have to replace your air conditioner.

Energy Rating

An air conditioning system takes a lot of electricity. Any time you are changing the temperature of a space, it requires a lot of energy. The bigger the area and the greater the temperature change, the more electricity your air conditioner will use. Ask the service tech about the energy ratings on the various units they are suggesting to you. The units should have an Energy Star rating, which will let you easily compare each unit's energy efficiency. To get an Energy Star rating, each of the units will have gone through the exact same testing so that you can compare units using the same criteria.

Installation Time

You don't want to be without your air conditioning any longer than absolutely necessary. That's why you should ask your HVAC company how long it will take to install the new air conditioner. When you ask about the installation time, you also need to ask if that time includes any waiting time for the new AC unit to be sent to you or if they have the unit in stock. Another part of the installation time question is if they will be able to install the new air conditioner immediately or if you have to schedule another appointment for the unit to be installed in your house.

When your air conditioner breaks down, you aren't going to be as comfortable in your house as you were before. You may have difficulty sleeping, cooking will overheat your house, and everyone will be grumpy because they are hot. Call an HVAC contractor and arrange for someone to your home to evaluate your AC.
